Psychologist - Dungavel IRC, Strathaven
Salary: £48,788 – £56,747 per annum, (pro rata)

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Band 7 Psychologist to join our dedicated multidisciplinary healthcare team at Dungavel Immigration Removal Centre in Scotland.
This part-time role (24 hours per week) offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to provide psychological care to a diverse and often vulnerable population within a secure environment.
The successful candidate will bring a high level of clinical expertise, especially in substance misuse and complex mental health, and will be confident working independently as well as collaboratively.
You will work closely with and complement the on-site Art Therapist, contributing to a psychologically informed environment that supports therapeutic engagement and emotional wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments and deliver evidence-based interventions for individuals presenting with a range of mental health and substance misuse issues.
- Develop, implement, and review individualised treatment plans that are person-centred and culturally sensitive.
- Provide specialist psychological input to multidisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, and care planning within the secure setting.
- Work in collaboration with the on-site Art Therapist to provide an integrated and holistic approach to mental health care.
- Support individuals experiencing a wide range of psychological conditions including, but not limited to, PTSD, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, and substance dependence.
- Provide consultation, supervision, and advice to other staff members regarding psychological aspects of care.
- Ensure clinical practice is compliant with HCPC standards, professional guidelines, and safeguarding requirements.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of staff training on mental health, trauma, and substance misuse.

Requirements
Essential:
- HCPC-registered Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical, Counselling or Forensic).
- Experience at a Band 7 level or equivalent, demonstrating autonomous clinical practice and supervisory responsibilities.
- Significant clinical experience in both substance misuse and mental health, ideally in a secure, forensic, or immigration setting.
- Demonstrated competence in working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, with sensitivity to trauma and complex life experiences.
- Excellent communication, risk assessment, and formulation skills.
- Strong ability to work autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to promoting the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of people in detention.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in immigration detention, prisons, or other custodial settings.
- Awareness of the legal, ethical, and cultural considerations specific to detainees and asylum seekers.
- Multilingual skills.
- Familiarity with NHS frameworks and secure setting protocols.
